Search Engine Optimization and Promotion:
The Underground Secrets

Meta Tags:
The metatags by them selves don't give you a high ranking and visibility from inside search engines searches. You website needs your meta tags in conjunction with your site's content and your titles. Perfect keywords that are present in your HTML coding tags can be there, you will probably not get a high ranking if those keyword tags are not actually on your page.

All of the major search engines index (crawl) every single word of your page and compare them to your title description (meta) and META keywords. In fact some engines probably don't use the META keywords anymore, so that is why content is becoming even more important.

The First Step
The first step in web site promotion is to figure out the words that people are most likely to search for your site with. When you are finished with coming up with about 5 to 10 words, type them up as your keywords and install them onto the page using them. From now on these are the words you should use in your Title, META description, META keywords list, throughout your page and the ALT tags when using images.

Spamming of Keywords:
The overuse and repetitive use of META keywords could be considered as spamming by alot of search engines and is sometimes considered negative.  Your site then may suffer with a lower ranking for that. You should also intermix your keywords in different combinations throughout the page and in your ALT tags instead of repeating the words over and over.  Remember to put your most important keywords as close to the <BODY> tag as you can.

Being Link Popular!
One of the most important things to achieve a high listing and ranking in the search engines is link popularity. Not only is it the quantity of links to your site that is important but it's also the quality of the links that are important. A link at Dmoz or Yahoo is given much more weight than a link from a personal web site. Some search engines love "on topic" links. An "on topic" link is a link that contains your keywords, in this case an "on topic" link could look like this:
  TonysDesigns.com - Website Design, Graphic Designer and Web Consulting

There are three important keywords present in this link. "Website Design, Graphic, and Web Consulting"  Some search engines will boost your ranking for keywords that are present in links to your site. It is also important that your keywords are present in internal links, because some engines count them as well.

Spelling? What Spelling?
Another important factor to consider is properly using of wrongly spelled words: Misspelled words could increase your website traffic due to many people searching for subjects but misspelling them. Here are some exapmples: free submision, fre sumit, subit, saerch engines, submition, add ULR, saerchengines, etc. and end up at this page because these words are present at the page and among the META keywords.

Search Engine Optimization and Promotion:
The META tags

Title me Fully
Your website's "title" is the most crucial spot to insert your keywords, but be careful and limit the
"title" to fewer than 15 words including your most imperative keywords. It's crucial that your "title" is as expressive as possible and that it's focus is seriously what that page is really all about, that page's information, for two clear reasons:

1. The "title" what will come up when someone does a search, and you would want to create the center of attention or draw people in, not shoo them away with a lot of keywords that have no meaning. Also, if someone clicks on your search engine produced link and the "title" differs from your content, they are forsure going to not stick around.

2. Your "title" should show the content of the page for higher listings and rankings in the search engines. It makes your site pertinent to your "title".

Example of a
"title":
<title>TonysDesign.com - Clean, Clear innovative Website Design.</title>

"The META description" is used by some search engines as a summary of what your website is about. Install your keywords and key phrases in your META description.  Also, make sure that they are also showing up in the mentioned page. You should not use more than 200 characters in your META description.

Example:
<meta name="description" content="Your site description here.">

Usage of "Meta Keywords" Properly:

  • Do not use more than 1000 characters
  • Separate each keyword or key phrases with a comma
  • Keywords should also be present on your page for higher ranking, and to avoid being caught for spamming.
  • Example: <meta name = "keywords" content = "Keyword1, Keyword2, Key phrase, etc.">

"The META keywords" are not used as much by the search engines as in years past, but right now, there isn't reason not to use them.
